History:
The building was built on Main Street in 1887 for the total price of $17,000. Originally it had a bell tower on the top of it that has since been removed. On the right-hand side of the steps you can find a Geological Survey plaque with Lancaster's elevation on it.

At one time it was only open in the summer. It was sold to the town for $1.00 in 1997 whe the new (5th building of its kind)replacement was built in Coos. The new building was built at the site of the old Lancaster School behind Centennial Park on School Street.

Clues to find:

1. Start at the parking lot of the Welcome Center.

2. On Park Street walk to the lights of Main Street.

3. Across Main Street you can see a street named after a famous battle during the American Revolutionary War.

4. Take a left on to Main Street go NW

5. Go pass the stone arch where you would have been able to lead your horse to water during the 1800's.

6. Keep moving in the NW direction past the bronze sly and cunning animal memorial dedicated to the founders of Lancaster.

7. Cross School Street.

8. Pass the place of worship.

9. Go to parking lot around the back of the next building. Walk around the bulkhead.
