This letterbox is hidden in Pinehill Cemetery in Westfield, Ma. The cemetery is at Upper Court St / Western Ave.

This is both my first letterbox plant, and my first carved stamp! I hope you like it! It’s a bigger stamp, so you know.

The following little fan fiction will give you the clues.
************************************

Agent Dana Scully looked over at her partner as she leaned back in the passenger seat of their rented 2007 Ford Crown Victoria. “Remind me what we’re doing in Westfield, Massachusetts again Mulder? We have…” She checked the dashboard clock “Four hours to be at the conference in Boston." Scully was eager to get there, as she was teaching a panel about new advancements in forensic medicine later that afternoon.

“We’ve got plenty of time” Said Agent Fox Mulder “As soon as I found out Skinner was sending us up here, I wanted to check this place out.”

As he turned the car off the road Scully said “A cemetery? Really Mulder, that’s a little stereotypical even for you.”

“Not just any cemetery. Pinehill is known in this area as being haunted. The back hill they say has a hostile presence on it that’s felt even in the residential neighborhoods behind the grounds.”

Scully noted that Westfield State College was just up the way “More likely to be drunken frat boys playing tricks” She said.

As Mulder went through the front gates, he slowly drove past the chapel and a large stone crypt like building both to their right. When he saw a newly carved black stone reading “Mahlon and Rose Blood” he turned right onto the narrow road that ran behind the stone toward the back of the land.

“What do you think Rose Blood means?” He asked his partner.

“Dracula’s childhood sled” She quipped.

Grinning, Mulder carefully drove the car along the road, and then down a steep hill, around to the back of the cemetery. On their left they passed a large stone crypt for Wilcox, and he knew they were going the right way.

They came to the place where the road met the chain link fence, and parked their car in front of several graves with the names “Jarvis” “Lee” “Harrison Peirce” and “Grace Peirce”. As they got out of the car and looked up at the hill covered in trees, Mulder said “This is where the mysterious presence is said to frighten people away from this place. Maybe its one of the people buried here protecting the land.”

Scully shrugged “Or maybe it’s just a story people tell to keep kids out of here at night.”

Mulder wasn’t listening. Instead he was walking back the way they had come to the bottom of a set of stairs set into the hill, so overgrown and covered in pine needles and leaves they could barely be seen. Looking up the stairs he noticed a large gravestone some feet up to the right with the name “Bartlett”.

He began to climb the stairs, and Scully followed wishing she had sneakers or boots rather than the low heals she wore. She noted a stone a little further up to the left with the name “Root”.

Mulder had gone to a V-shapes tree on the right, and noticed something. He knelt by a set of stones to the right, the first reading “Barbara 1918-1919.”

“Maybe someone is protecting the spirit of this child” he said thoughtfully.

By now Scully was cold, and she was also rapidly realizing that she had no business on this hill in these shoes “Mulder, there’s nothing here!”

Returning to the stairs, Mulder continued up. He saw a clump of pines, some that were little more than shrubs, some that were huge and towering trees to his right. Just beyond, he noticed a fallen tree that had come to rest at the base of another tree.

“Look!” HE headed over and knelt where the log touched the trunk of the standing tree “This black fur…it’s a lot like what’s been found at sites of Bigfoot sightings. Maybe this isn’t supernatural. Maybe people are feeling the presence of a bigfoot here protecting its land.”

Scully looked around at the beer cans left strewn about by some late night party “Mulder, that’s black Squirrel fur. They're all over the place here. As for your threatening spirit, its more likely high school and college kids that come here to drink, and end up scaring people. Come on Mulder, there’s nothing here but local spook stories.”

Mulder sat down on the log, trying to get a feel for the area. He glanced down the hill toward the car, and then looked to his left when he noticed a tree a little ways up the hill that had been broken in a storm. The remains stood about 10 feet high. At the base was a hollow, that had a thick branch resting against its base. It reminded him of a child’s storybook drawing of a gnomes hole. And who could say if gnomes were real?

Mulder got up and went to the tree, kneeling down and looking into the hollow. He started to reach in, to remove the branch and brush aside the pine needles and peer inside. “The truth is here, Scully. I can feel it.”

“All I can feel is that I want a cup of coffee and a hot shower before my class. Come on, Mulder.” Scully sighed.

Reluctantly, Mulder got up and followed her back to the car, and they left the cemetery and continued on their way.

But had he followed his instinct, and reached inside that little hollow, he would have discovered that there WAS something waiting there for him. Something he knew well.
Mulder didn’t discover the truth. But maybe you will.
