The box is in the Mt.Tom reservation. You can reach it from either Rt.141 or Rt.5. There is a $2.00 parking fee for the day and includes the picnic area, play ground, lake and viewing towers plus plenty of great trails.Get a trail map from the park headquarters or at the gate. Find Hampden parking lot. Cross the field to the Dynamite Trail..Follow this trail till it intersects the M&M trail and turn right onto this trail. Follow the trail past the rock in the middle of the trail that has KC Rup on it. The trail will split and then come back together again. Right after look right to see and old fallen tree. On the other side of the stump covered by bark and leaves will be the Butterfly Box. We put this box there because if you follow the trail to the top and find the lookout tower youy will notice in the summer months there are lots of butterflies there. We are not sure what attracts them to this spot but they add to the wonderful views you will see. Enjoy and let us know what you think of our clues.
