Easy half mile (one way)
This stamp was lovingly carved for me by my son-in-law, who adores his mother-in-law :-)
You'll find lots of signs of ATV activity here.

From the center of Newington turn east onto Patricia M. Genova Dr. The former Newington Childrens Hospital grounds. Go to the stop sign, turn left at the sign for the Hartford Regional Center, park under the Rt. 175 bridge after jumping a small curb. A few steps ahead on the right is a green metal gate and after entering you'll see a sign up against a tree that says this is a nature center (this sign may be missing). Balf Park was donated to the town by the Balf Corp.

The trails are unmarked but plainly visible. After a small climb you'll come to the water tower on your right and climbing a little more you see a trail going left, but walk a few more steps and take the right trail. (I think the trail straight ahead goes to Russell Rd. and the Ct. Humane Society) As you walk along you can see the back of the water tower on your right and when the traffic noise starts to get louder there's a vague view of the valley which might be spectacular in winter. You'll see a square silver post on the left. Keep following the obvious trail and after a particularly sharp right turn look for a downed tree on the left that has about 15 feet (I've been told that this is now more like 8 feet) still in the ground. Go back 13 steps and look in the V of another downed tree that was cut away from the trail. This will now be on your right.

Please cover the rocks because this is likely to be busy at times.
Thanks for visiting Balf Park.
