The Wilder-Holton House

The Wilder-Holton House, built by Jonas Wilder in 1780 is the oldest house in Lancaster. When Jonas got old he gave the house to his youngest son, Artemas, who then sold it to Timothy Holton from Ellington, Connecticut. Timothy then deeded the property to his son Joseph who had come to Lancaster in 1810 with his wife Mary. Joseph then found farming in Coos County not profitable for him so he went back to Ellington re-deeding the house to his father, Timothy. Mary stayed for a while and then Timothy conveyed the property to her.

Start from the Welcome Center on Park Street. Pick up a brochure if they are open.
