During World War II the military maintained an auxiliary airfield along the east edge of Sahuarita. The airfield was later abandoned. Today, the old entrance road for the Sahuarita County Park (the road you will be walking on) is on the old runway. Here is a webpage that gives information about the old airfield: Sahuarita AF Flight Strip.
From I-19 south of Tucson, take exit #75 and drive east on Sahuarita Road to Nogales Highway (railroad tracks run along the east side of this highway). Continue straight across Nogales Highway on Sahuarita Road for about 1.3 miles. Turn left (north) on Sahuarita Park Road. The road will make a sharp right turn, passing in front of a high school and then entering Sahuarita Park. After entering the park, keep to the right and park in the most southeasterly lot in front of the Community Center building.
Walk southeast on the paved road that runs in front of the Edge High School building. This road is the old military airfield runway. Go over the cattle guard, through the yellow gate, and under three different power lines. Stop at the last (most southerly) power line. Go to the wooden power pole on the left side of the road (pole has #24625 on it).
From that pole, go at about 338 degrees (from mag. north) for about 33 steps to a large Mesquite Tree. From the east side of that tree, go at about 76 degrees for about 33 steps to a medium size Mesquite Tree. The box is under the back (east) side of the tree under a flat rock covered with some plant debris.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag, and, put all of it INSIDE the box). Please rehide the box well under the rock and covered with some plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
