Located in the Cockaponset State Forest in Westbrook CT.

Directions : From I 95 , exit 64 , travel north on RT. 145 . [Horse Hill Road ] In about 3 miles come to the Masserschmidt Boat Launch on the right , now, watch on the left for the smaller sign for the Cockaponset State Forest and a woods road going in to a parking lot . Park there

CT Department of Environment Protection has a wonderful map that shows the many trails that extend from here , into Deep River , Killingworth and Clinton.

This is a short stroll and begins between the four large rocks and the trail sign board . To find The Blue Gentian Letterbox , walk down the green trail . Pass by the Orange Trail on your left and soon , take the Blue Trail on your left. Walk over a wooden bridge and continue on a wide trail passing large boulders along the way and two side trails on your right. . Take a sharp right onto the White Trail and soon cross a tiny stream on stones , then a seasonal wet area . Soon see a large three sister Beech tree on the left side of the trail . Stop here and sight almost due west . Walk in that direction up the little hill , on the top , in line with that large three sister Beech tree, is a smaller shaggy birch two sister tree . Behind it , in the roots under a trap door , is the Blue Gentian .

Did you know what a Gentian is ??

To return to the parking lot , go back onto the White trail , the way you came and turn left on the Blue trail and then over the wooden bridge , turn right on green and soon come to the parking lot .

I hope you enjoyed this little stroll
