The word Nonotuck means "the midst of the river". Nonotuck is the name of the highest peak in the Mt. Tom range, and Nonotuck was the original name of the neighboring town of Northampton.

This series contains graphics paying homage to the Native American history in Western Ma. The path follows the paved loop around Nonotuck Park in Easthampton MA. It is roughly 1.8 miles. There is a fee to enter with a vehicle on weekends. Park info & map can be found here: http://www.easthamptonweb.com/nonotuck/index.html

Clue:
Enter Nonotuck Park, drive past the “Welcome to Nonotuck Park/Daly Field” sign and park at the basketball courts on the left. Walk back towards the main entrance and turn right onto the paved drive. Pass a speed limit sign, and look for a paved drainage path. Follow it downhill, then turn right onto a small trail. Travel 15 steps to a tall wood-pecked stump. Search in the hole on the front right of this trunk, about 2 feet off the ground. Here lies Scout.

Go back to the paved drive and continue in the direction you were headed. At the next speed limit sign, put your right shoulder to the back of the signpost. Travel 25 steps straight into the woods to an old stump. You can find a hatchet in a hole on the front of the top surface.

Go back to the paved drive and continue in the direction you were headed. At the intersection stay straight towards pavilion 2-4. At next intersection, turn right towards pavilion 3. Pass a speed limit sign, and put your right hip to the back of the “no parking” sign post. Travel 35 steps into the woods to the end of a rotting log. A hole on the ground under the end of the log has a bear claw.

Back at the drive, continue on the direction you were heading. Stay straight towards the soccer fields at the next intersection. At the speed limit sign look to the right into the woods. See a log parallel to the drive. Five feet from the right end is a hole on the backside which contains a peace pipe.

Retrace your steps aways by going left back up the drive. Go left at the stop sign. At the next stop sign turn right to continue on the main loop. Walk quite a ways to picnic site #10 on the left and water on the right. A bit further ahead see 3 rocks on the right. Turn right to go between two rocks, go five steps, then turn right to look between 2 large evergreens. See a log pointing towards the water. The eagle is in the end of the log closest to the water. After logging in, take the dirt path down to the water to enjoy the beautiful views.

Back up to the drive, continue on the direction you were heading. Follow it to picnic site #2 on the right. Start between the two picnic tables and take 10 steps towards the woods. Take a left onto the path and travel 20 steps. Turn right and go between small evergreens 20 steps to the end of a log. The phoenix and logbook are under this end of the log, covered by a chunk of stump.

After logging in, go back to the dirt path. Turn right onto it to continue in the direction you were headed. Shortly it comes out at a paved drive. Turn right and follow a short ways to get back to the parking area.
