The Oldest Lutheran Church in Texas

This church is absolutely beautiful! The day we were there we were able to peek inside and it was like going into a postcard picture of a German church! The grounds are just as pretty. There is a gazebo and in the back a graveyard. Although very old, it is well kept. There is a registry that is enclosed in a booth that you can view at anytime to see who lays at rest at the Bethlehem cemetery.

Pastor J. Adam Neuthard, held the first service on January 13, 1867. It is recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 1978.
Services are held each Sunday at 9:00 am and Sunday School is every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 10:15 am.

Clues:
Hwy. 290 is the main hwy. that connects Houston and Austin. About 20 miles west of Brenham head south on hwy. 237. When you enter the town of Round Top turn (veer) southeast on North White Street. This street will take you to the church’s front door. Park your car at the gazebo and take 25 skips along the right side of the church to the steps at the cemetery. Take a moment to look at the book then continue down the stairs to the bench along the very back rock wall. There is a small tree behind the rock wall. Walk to the second tree on the left and at the base of the wall is a hole where the letterbox is located. The hole has had many rocks placed in front of it to hide the box so keep that in mind. Be sure to return it the special way that you found it. Congratulations!
