“Buckeye Swamp”

This microbox has been washed away - we will plant a new one soon. Please check back.

Your quest for this microbox begins at the Ohio State University Olentangy Wetland Research and Education Building located at 352 W. Dodridge Road, Columbus, Ohio. Park in the paved parking area (parking is available for bikes here but no pets are permitted on the grounds). From the Wetland Research Building sign at the West Side of the parking lot, walk North along the paved road. The road soon turns to gravel and leads you past a pavilion – a great birding spot that also gives you an overview of the Wetlands Area. The path will narrow and become paved again and you will see a chain link enclosure on your right Continue on to the Northernmost corner of the enclosure. You will see a sign welcoming you to the “Buckeye Swamp.”

From the welcome sign head east along the bikepath for approximately ¼ mile, continuing around the bend heading south.

A sign on the right side of the path reads “Mitigating Wetlands Loss” and describes the billabong you see to the west. Beginning at the sign, count 53 yellow dashes on the path until you find a small pathway the leads off to the West. Nineteen steps (2 steps to a pace) will bring you to the middle of a small footbridge. Your microbox is under the SW corner of the bridge on the concrete footing.

The path which heads West and then North beyond the bridge will circle the west side of the billabong and bring you back to the pavilion.
