This letterbox is hidden in the Auburndale Community Library, located at 375 Auburn Street, Auburndale MA 02466. Please check the library web site (http://auburndalelibrary.org/) for hours.

This box was created by two cousins, K and the far-flung J. It's the first letterbox we've created, though we've found quite a few together. (And yes, we checked with the library staff; they were quite happy to have a letterbox in the library!)

To assemble the call number where the letterbox is hidden, follow these clues:

  1. When you first enter the library, turn right and head toward the wall. On the wall are 2 plaques, and the bottom one has the letter you are looking for. On that plaque, the letter you are looking for is the third letter in two words with a red or blue first letter.

  2. Also in front of you is part of the fiction section. Count the number of built in book shelves, and correspond that number to a letter in the alphabet. You have found the first two letters of the call number!

  3. Now look around the library until you find a large stuffed animal with a shirt. The first letter of the stuffed animal’s name is the first letter in the author’s last name. The first letter of the stuffed animal’s last name is the last letter in the author’s last name.

  4. Go find a plaque with a year on it. The first number in the year corresponds to a letter in the alphabet. This letter is the second letter in the author’s last name.

  5. Find the most odd-shaped piece of furniture in the library. Look through its empty drawers to find four letters that fill up the author’s last name. Write down these letters in the order the index cards would appear in the rainbow (think ROY G. BIV). Please Note: Do not take the index cards out of the drawer! We would like as many people as possible to enjoy this letterbox, and to do that, the cards are needed. Thank You!

You have completed the author’s last name, the second part of the call number!

  6. To find the author’s first initial, go into the children’s room. Take a left, and look for the Lemony Snicket novels. The letter that is on the majority of the books’ spines in that book shelf is the author’s first initial.

You have found the author’s first initial, the third and final part of the call number! The call number should look like this:

    A B

    Doe, J

Note: This is not the actual call number!

Now, just use the call number to find the letterbox! Good luck!

*If you are having trouble putting together the call number, or just want to double check yourself, here some extra clues:

  1. Neither of the first two letters in the call number are vowels

  2. The author’s last name has 7 letters, and one letter is repeated 3 times.

  3. The author’s first name starts with the same letter as the sample call number above.
