Past Post~ Farragut Letterbox

Farragut Naval Training Station is actually a Past Post, Past Post. You'll find two stamps in this LB. One is representative of the mail that passed through the training station and the other is representative of the training station itself.
Farragut was and is a marvelous place full of rich history. During the war years it was one of the inland bases put in place after the Pearl Harbor attack.
293,381 recruits and over 25,000 service school attendees. trained at Farragut between the years of 1942 and 1946. The first recruits arrived on September 17, 1942. The last graduation was March 10, 1945.
A lot of people and mail passed through this place. Farragut quickly became the largest city in Idaho. Recruits from California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming housed here and afterward were stationed in all theaters of operation during WW2.
While at Farragut visit the Visitors Center and the Brig Museum. Say hi to Mack located in the yard just southeast of the Brig.
A big heart felt Thanks! to all our Veterans.

to the letterbox:

Head to Farragut State Park. Stop by the Visitor's Center and pick up a day pass ($5) and a map of the park. You'll want to find the South Road. Drive along this road until you find Kinglet Road. It's a left turn and will run North. Drive until you see the sign for Lynx Trailhead. It's on the left side of the road before you reach Locust Grove Road. Have a park and prepare for a short walk (about 0.35 mile in, it will be a .70 of a mile round trip) along an old paved road that has been blocked to vehicle traffic. This is a level southwesterly walk. You need to walk until you come to a place were 3 paved routes converge. South of this convergence you should see a white sign. (Wait! this has been removed! !You can still see where it was. The hole for the post is still there.) Face this sign (HOLE) and look over the top of it. You will see a large Red Fir tree just 21 steps farther to the south. Or stand in the middle of the convergence and look southeast. You will see a large Red Fir tree approximately 27 steps away. At the eastern base of this tree, where a pitchy spot turns the trunk white, is Past Post ~Farragut covered with broken cones. Some squirrels have been really busy for years.
As always watch for others before retrieving and replacing. Please re-cover well.
There is two stamps in this letterbox.
Thanks so much for playing along. God bless.

Sincerely, Sondog
