This is what I hope to make into a series of three stamps and letterboxes commemorating the Native American tribe that inhabited this area in times past.
In the Aransas Wildlife Refuge, stop and pay the park fee ($3-$5) and get a park map. Continue down the park road, stopping to park at the trailhead for the Big Tree Trail. Follow the Big Tree Trail, going to the left as the trail forks. Approximately 322 steps in, you will see a moss covered tree that is bent near the base of the trunk to be almost parallel to the ground. From this horizontal section of trunk, two large limbs grow skyward. Look for this letterbox at the base of the trunk, underneath the shelter provided by the bend. Two small rotted logs hide it from view. This tree is a little way off the trail to your right, over a thick carpet of oak leaves, and some bushiness.
Please email me to let me know of it's condition, if you search for it.
