While visiting Lassen Volcanic N. P., I was fascinated with the rugged but beautiful volcanic terrain. So I went back to camp and carved the stamp for this letterbox.

From Viola, travel east on State Highway 44 for about 6 miles to a large gravel pullout on the right (east) side of the highway. It is about 0.2 mile before the junction with St. Hwy. 89 (which goes into the park). There is a line of boulders along the back side of the pullout.

From the left (north) end of the boulders walk east past a metal post near a survey marker. Keep walking east along an old road bed now studded with bushes and small trees. Stepping over a downed tree, continue to a large lone boulder in the old roadway. The box is under the back edge of the boulder under some rocks and covered with pine needles and other plant debris.

Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks covered with some twigs and other plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

I will not be able to check on this box; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
