Sorry, but this box has been removed. It was vandalized one too many times.

easy clues and terrain

Today you are seeking a letterbox hidden in the wooded area surrounding Bad Luck Pond (Warren Upper Reservoir).
Bad Luck Brook was first dammed to create Bad Luck Pond circa 1730 by George Beverly, who had a sawmill just north of the present dam. From 1837-1838, a larger dam was constructed on the present site to power two cotton mills. Upkeep was neglected, and in June of 1859, after an extended rainfall, the dam collapsed. The ensuing flood washed away 11 bridges, another dam, and a portion of one of the mills. Fortunately, no lives were lost. The present dam was built in the early 20th century by the Bristol County (R.I.) Water Authority to supply drinking water.

Directions to pond:
From the intersection of Routes 44 and 118, go south on Route 118.
After 1.8 miles, turn left on Kelton St.
After 0.4 miles, turn right on Gorham St.
After 0.7 miles, turn left on Reservoir Ave.
Travel approximately 0.4 miles (between poles #3857 and #3858)
park on left side of road

Take a short walk east on Reservoir Ave. until you see a grey boulder on the left. Cross the stepping stones to the path leading into the woods. Follow this path to the water's edge. When you reach the water, turn left (NW) on path. Continue traveling on path until you come to a large puddingstone boulder. Stop here and to the left (west) you will see a smaller puddingstone boulder. Newt Rockne is hiding under a small pile of rocks on the west side of this boulder.
