Fernandina Beach is credited with being the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry, around 1900, because of the introduction of the first powered shrimp boat, the fishing of offshore areas, and application of the otter trawl. This historical fact is celebrated each May with a Shrimp Festival, but you can find this letterbox anytime on the Egans Creek Greenway, a scenic wildlife preserve established in 2000 by the Fernandina Parks and Recreation Service.

Directions:
Take SR 200 onto Amelia Island where it becomes 8th street and turn right on Sadler Road. Go about 1 mile and turn left into first entrance of the Residence Inn. Go to back of hotel and park in a spot designated for Egans Creek Greenway.

Clues:
Walk on trail about 100 yards to a boardwalk and continue across it to a Greenway sign. Continue about 50 yards to a jct and go left on smaller trail about 100 yards where it curves right by a house. Continue about 150 yards to a lone pine tree on the left. Continue 20 steps to 3 large trees together on right 5 steps off trail. The letterbox is within their trunks under leaves and a brick. Please replace as described.
