FOOTLONG (seventh bite)

This is a 12-stamp series dedicated to family memories and family businesses. (Both of these need to be cherished and preserved, in my opinion.) We salute our favorite hot dog stands, located all the way from Stratford to Naugatuck, CT.
These are "quickie" boxes: located in high traffic areas, no pads, no ink. Each of the 12 bites from the footlong hot dog is numbered and contained in a pouch made from red and white checkered tablecloth. Please be quick to collect the stamp, and thorough in hiding it again. We hope that you will have the time to enjoy the specialities of each location. For many summers, our family certainly has.

SEVENTH BITE LETTERBOX
Fritz's Snack Bar

Located on Rt 67 in Oxford, not too far over the Seymour line, just beyond the traffic light at Great Hill Drive and the Great Hill Plaza. Take Rt 8 North to Exit 22, Bank Street. Take a left at the bottom of the exit to the traffic lights under the highway. Another left puts you on Rt 67. Follow Rt 67 up the hill, and for about 1.5 miles. Fritz's is located on the right.

In recent times, Fritz's has been nicely renovated, and transformed into an established-looking eatery. Our memories know that there still is a roadside stand in there which serves terrific milkshakes made with ice cream from nearby dairies. Alas, the Snack Bar was closed when Skip and TJ visited to place this letterbox. We shall return!

Park in the lot on the left side of the Snack Bar. Look toward the highway, and you will see a concrete bridge. As you walk toward the bridge, look to your right, toward the bank of the stream that courses under the bridge. You will see a slope of bright stones. Walk down that slope and you will notice a grouping of red rusty ones that stand out from the rest. The seventh bite letterbox is hidden under these stones.
