Remember when you were a kid? Or maybe you still are....either way, I'm sure you know how fun it is to play in the park. Well this is where our journey begins. On a swing in the Hickory Creek Preserve.
You will find the Hickory Creek Preserve on Rt. 30 (Lincoln Hwy)just West of Wolf Road in Monkena IL. Starting at the intersection of Rt. 30 and Wolf road, travel west on Rt. 30 for one (1) mile. After you go under a bike bridge, you will see the enterance of the Preserve on your right.
When you pull into the parking lot you will see a playground. Park and take a seat on the SWING.
Facing East with the parking lot to your back, Pump your legs to see how high you can reach. Once you are either dizzy or tired, stop. Look straight ahead and you will see a bike path.
Head Left on the path. You will come to a T. in the path very quickly. Go left (away from the bridge). As you continue on the path, you will come to another T. At this T, you will see a Pavilion on your left. Go take a load off and sit at a table for as long as you desire. When you sit down, face the parking lot. You will see a RED water pump. Fill your water jug if you wish. Now head BACK to the T. on the path you were on before you took a load off and sat at the table under the Pavilion. If you are asking yourself, "Didn't I just get off that path?", the answer is YES. We just thought it was important to stop and enjoy nature.
Now to double check your coordinates, you should be heading North. Continue down the path for approximately 5 minutes. You will come along Mile Marker #1 on your right. Continue on. Up ahead you will see a bridge. On the left of the bridge you will see a bench. There is a small clearing / path just before the bench on the left. Immediately entering the clearing / path you will see a down tree on your right. Go to the end of the log and you will find our box tucked into the log.
