I have included several links for information on this state owned conservation land. It is a very beautiful easy day hike that contains many aspects of the Maine experience. Beautiful strolling hikes and stunning coastlines.
Have fun, don’t forget to print your trail map. They are usually all gone at the kiosk. This is not mandatory for the letterbox, it’s just fun.
Trail Map… http://www.maine.gov/doc/parks/maps/dodgepoint.pdf

Directions to Dodge Point: From business Route 1 in Newcastle (just south of Damariscotta), take a left onto River Road. Travel ½ mile and bear left at the fork. Continue on River Road for 2 ½ miles. The parking and kiosk will be on your left.

Description
Dodge Point Management Unit, located on the western shore of the Damariscotta River, encompasses 521 acres in the Town of Newcastle. The property boasts over 8,000 feet of frontage on the Damariscotta River with pocket sand and pebble beaches, vistas from the Rivers' shore, a freshwater ponds and stream-cut ravines in the interior uplands.
Outdoor recreational activities abound here including hiking, cross-country skiing, skating, swimming and fishing. This well-managed forest bears the distinction of being named the State Of Maine's 1978 Tree Farm of the Year. Take the interpretive trail that starts at the Old Farm Road and make sure you explore the Shore Trail for the best views!
The Land for Maine's Future Board acquired the Dodge Point property on behalf of the State of Maine from the Edward W. Freeman Trust in March of 1989. In addition to the Land for Maine's Future Program, the Damariscotta River Association and the Maine Coastal Program pooled funds to acquire the land for generation of visitors to enjoy.

Clues :
Once you have located the area, parked and applied bug spray, look for the kiosk. There are several trails you may want to explore, but for this box take the trail to the left of the kiosk.
You will descend past streams, and vegetations that feels like Sherwood forest. Make your way over two small wood bridges. Some way after this on you right, you will see an old New England style stone wall. Look all the way down this wall which is about 25 feet long. The Icon for the Damariscotta River Association is placed under the second stone from the end.
Have a great time !
