Oh, Burton Island, what an amazing place! Quiet, secluded. I great place to go with the people you care about most. My mom, sister, 9 year old niece and I chose Burton Island for our bi-yearly “Girls only” camping trip this year. Just the four of us! What an amazing time we had! I introduced my mom and sister to Letterboxing on this trip! My niece Maddy however, has been Letterboxing with me in the past, as I planted “Maddy’s Sunshine” in dedication to her this past July (in Groton, VT, check it out). They LOVED it! So, to commemorate our awesome adventure together, we decided to plant a Letterbox on the island!
Clues:
After a short boat ride to Burton Island, you will find yourself looking at the check-in station. Continue on that “road” until you reach the “field” where you can hear children of all ages laughing and PLAYING, sometimes in teams.
From this point continue walking to the nearest place where people find “rest” and “relief”. This rest area is in a clearing. Locate the largest tree within the clearing. Stand with your left side closest to here “men rest” . The large tree will be on your right. Walk to this largest tree. Stand with your left side furthest from the building. From here, turn to about 2:00. Locate the small path ahead, into the trees. Go about 25 paces to reach the pace entrance. This path, if followed to the end would take you to another camp site. Don’t take the path that far.
Notice, to your right (SHORTLY AFTER entering into the trees, about 8 paces on the trail) a large decaying tree with no top. Go to that tree. In the fallen bark, you will find the “Girls only Camping Trip” Letterbox. Enjoy! Search and replant carefully, this can be a busy spot at busy season.
