We hide the letterbox “Back to School” to celebrate the fun during the summer of 2010. It was a great summer full of friends, family, swimming, boating and camping. We also started letterboxing this summer. A great new family activity we all love. This is our first letterbox to hide and my first stamp to make. Please let us know if you have any trouble with the clues or box. (cwclinkscales@email.com)
This letterbox is hidden on the Sue Grossman Still River Greenway. It is located on the newer (Torrington) end. Several other letterboxes are hidden with clues from the parking lot at the other end of the trail closest to Winsted.
Round trip to the letterbox is just under a mile. It’s a paved flat path. An easy walk or bike for kids. If you wanted to go further round trip the whole path is about 5.4 miles (best I could tell clocking it in my car.)
CLUES:
*From Winsted Road in Torrington turn onto Harris Drive to enter the parking lot for the Sue Grossman Still River Greenway.
*Start down the path. There will be no trees on your left. Keep walking you will cross Machuga Road. Shortly after that you will notice 2 loan trees to your left just before a more densely wooded area begins with a short fence.
*About 15 feet past the fence enter into the wooded area at a broken off (too tall to be called a stump) 3 sister tree.
*Once into the woods look several feet in front of you for a large tree that branches off into many (5, maybe more) trees/large branches.
*Look about 18 inches from the bottom of that tree and you will find your letterbox.
Happy Letterboxing!!!
