In the summer issue of CFPA News & Notes (page 4) there's a fine article about the new blue blazed Menunkatuck Trail. It says approximately a mile east of the Bluff head kiosk and parking area and at this kiosk we found a map of the new trail.

You'll be passing by a very old series so take clues and supplies for possibly injured boxes.

Park at bluff Hear parking, cross the busy road and go north to find the blue trail heading east. Stay on blue the whole way at first going up and then going down. This is the landscape of this hike but I believe it's the shortest way to the intersection of the Mattabesett Trail and the new Menunkatuck Trail which is your destination. Staying on blue you'll eventually circle around a huge rock mountain, cross a stream and then follow the stream for awhile. After leaving the stream behind watch for a rock fall on the right with a spectacular tall squarish upright rock and after a few more ups and downs go through the "squeeze" to come upon a large erratic on the right of the trail. Not long after this (at the top of one of the many ups) you'll see ahead of you twin boulders to the left of a multi sister tree. Look between the twins for box #1, a peanut butter jar with only a stamp (log book is in the last box).

Continue on blue, going down the steepest "down" yet and walk until you come to an intersection with many blue signs. The sign to the left says route 79.. 5.4 mi. The sign to the right says route 80..5.4 mi. and in back of you it tells you that your car is 1.3 mi. away. Take the path to the right for about 95 steps and find an unmarked trail on the left. Take this path for about 20 steps and look left for a tree sitting on a rock. Look behind the right side of the rock being sat upon for box #2 and log book.
Retrace your steps or continue to route 80..........whatever.
