Alive & well as of August 22, 2007 with a new logbook.

Level of Difficulty: Drive by. Climbing on some rocks is part of this, but it’s easy.

Directions: From Horseshoe Bend, travel north on Highway 55 until you pass the Cougar Mountain Lodge on your right. Continue north about 1.5 miles until you see a pullout on the right next to the Payette River. Park here and watch rafters and kayakers take Howard’s Plunge.

Clues:
After spending part of my summer Roughin’ It white water rafting, I was blessed to see two bald eagles on my last trip, one of whom was perched close by on a tree.
Drop down from where the guardrail begins to the sappy tree next to the large white boulder. From the tree, walk out onto the lower of the two grey boulders. Nestled between the two is the Roughin’ It letterbox. If you bring binoculars and follow the river south along the railroad tracks the bald eager relaxes on the tree near the second large rocks past Howard’s Plunge.
