During the summer, the softball fields behind Gateway Community College in North Haven are filled with girls playing softball. This letterbox series has 3 boxes hidden in the complex.
Drive to Gateway Community College in North Haven CT. Follow the driveway around to the back of the building and you will see 7 softball fields. Each field is labeled with a number.
All of the boxes below are accessed from highly trafficked areas, especially during summer weekdays after 5 o’clock. Please be sure to rehide the boxes well.
Box #1 Batter’s Up
To begin start at the pitcher’s mound of Field #6 (if you begin at the stand by the parking lot it is back and to the right). From the pitcher’s mound, look beyond home plate and behind the fence. You will notice a trial there. Walk down the trail to a small clearing. At the small clearing there will be a mound of dirt in front of you and fallen trees and winding branches on the right. At the bottom of the pile is a fallen tree. Slightly to the left of center of this tree you will find “Batter’s Up.”
Box #2 Slugger
Walk to field # 3 (one of the enclosed fields). Behind home plate again there is a trail. Begin by walking down the trail. When you come to a fallen tree across the trail continue underneath it. You will come a fork in the trail at a 2 sister tree; bear to the right. Continue on the trail until you reach a chain linked fence. Follow the fence to the left. At the corner of the fence follow the trail to the right about 24 steps. On the left will be a tree exploding with branches. Inside the branches of the tree at the base you will find “Slugger.”
Box # 3 Change-up
Begin at 2nd base of field # 5. Walk NE toward the tennis courts. At the brown electrical box walk left toward an asphalt path. Walk down the asphalt path to the fence. Once you pass through the fence, immediately to the left will be a pile of crumbled concrete. Underneath the pile you will find “Change-up.”
