Special component to this letterbox: You must bring a hand-carved stamp that shows who you support and leave it in the box for other like-minded fans to stamp up their books. Each stamp supporting a team earns their school one point. Email me to let me know if you’ve dropped one off so I can keep the score updated.
Updates score as of April, 2011:
IOWA 2
IOWA STATE 1
Minnesota 1
May the best team win. (Panther fans also welcome.)
Directions: Go to Greenwood Park near the Des Moines Art Center. Drive South on 45th Street off of Grande Ave till you see the outdoor ampitheatre on your right. Park and walk to the ampitheatre. A drainpipe runs under the seating and feeds the pond. You want to find the spillway just out of view behind foliage that feeds that drainpipe. If you’re looking at the stage from the seats its on your right. Listen for falling water if it’s been rainy. The stone and cement spillway has a crack in the wall with what you seek inside, hopefully covered by sticks and whatnot.
Happy hunting.
Remember: You can only score a point for your team by leaving a stamp in the box. Email me so I can update the scoring.
