CLUES

This is a 12-stamp series dedicated to family memories and family businesses. (Both of these need to be cherished and preserved, in my opinion.) We salute our favorite hot dog stands, located all the way from Stratford to Naugatuck, CT.
These are "quickie" boxes: located in high traffic areas, no pads, no ink. Each of the 12 bites from the footlong hot dog is numbered and contained in a pouch made from red and white checkered tablecloth. Please be quick to collect the stamp, and thorough in hiding it again. We hope that you will have the time to enjoy the specialities of each location. For many summers, our family certainly has.

EIGHTH BITE LETTERBOX
The Windmill Restaurant

Located at 400 Hollister Street, at the corner with Thompson Street in Stratford, CT. Today just happened to be Labor Day, and I just happened to be remembering my hard-working Dad. And so I returned to Stratford, to the Windmill Restaurant, famous for its liver, bacon and onion sandwiches, fried kielbasi on rye with Koskiusko mustard, and of course chiliburgers and chilidogs. Every Friday night, our beagle, Dolly, would wait for Dad to return from duckpin bowling with two chilidogs. One was for Dad, the other for Dolly. The bottle of Rolling Rock, they shared!
I walked into the Windmill today, stepped up to the counter, gave Rudy my order and then sat down next to a very proud WWII Vet. He just happened to be my godfather's brother,Frank, and his nickname just happened to be "Hotdog"! (How COOL was that!) Chilidog and Chiliburger. Bill: $5.00
Time spent reminiscing with Rudy and Hotdog: Priceless

CLUE: Get yourself to the intersection of Barnum and Boston Avenues in Stratford. Heading down the hill, West on Barnum, take your first left, Thompson Street. About 1/2 mile on Thompson will bring you to the intersection with Hollister Street and The Windmill Rest on the right. On the left of Thompson St. is a small parking lot. Park in the lot and look at the stockade fence that is alonside the driveway and shrubs. Follow it to where it angles toward the street. Reach under the fence at its end and you will find the checkered pouch and the eighth bite letterbox shoved into the base of the bush.
