My children (6 and 2) LOVE letterboxing but we've never hidden a letterbox until now. They were so excited about going back to school we thought it'd be fun to hide a series of Back To School Letterboxes at Cheshire Park on Rt 10 in Cheshire. Take the Stony Hill Drive entrance and park facing the Red Building/Picnic Pavilions.
We've hidden 5 special Back-to-school themed stamps in the letterboxes along with 12 BTS themed silly bandz in each box for the first 12 kids who find each box! (more than 60 bands total).
The clues are written with little kids in mind (pretty simple to follow) and they go from one box to the next. It shouldn't take more than a half hour/45 minutes to find all of the boxes.
BTS Box #1
To find the first clue. From your car in the lot, face the picnic pavilion/flag area. To your left is a "wall" of pine trees. Take the path past the trees up the big hill and go have fun singing, dancing or just being silly on the big concrete rectangle other wise known as the park's stage. From there, look up the hill. To your left there is a row of 4 trees running up the hill. Walk to the fourth tree. At the tree face the road (rt 10, not stony hill). You will see a large rock in front of you. The box is hidden to the left of the rock under the bush and nestled nice and warm under some leaves. Please remember to rehide well.
BTS Box #2:
You're a grand old flag, You're a high flying flag And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of The land I love. The home of the free and the brave. Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue, Where there's never a boast or brag. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the grand old flag.
Find the subject of this song, face the front (by the plaque). The clue is hidden at 8 o'clock under and in the bush.
BTS Box #3:
From Old Glory, head towards the hiking trail. You won't go very far. Head up the trail just a little ways up the hill and you'll see two dirt mounds on your left. There's a small slightly worn in path between the two piles. Take that and before you get past the biggest pile, look at its base. The letterbox is hidden under 5 rocks that we piled to look like a dog's paw. (Please rehide well, placing the rocks back in the paw shape)
BTS Box #4:
If you keep walking on the path from #3 at the dirt mound you can walk to the left and down the hill and you'll be back out at the baseball fields. Walk to the pitchers mound of the closest field. From the mound you will see a small red building near 1st and a small white "building" that resembles a chicken coop back behind home plate. Look the under the one that is NOT the color of a barn.
BTS Box #5:
Now that you're in a baseball frame of mind. Who doesn't love a little CYB Fall ball? Walk to the metal cage where pitches fly and batters hit bombs. To the left of the cage is the CYB/CYS storage shed. Its hidden under the shed in back.
