Back in 2007, our very first letterboxing find was the Buffy Box, created by Dragon. And the choice of that box as our first find was no mistake. Since early in the show’s run, Lock and Shock were hooked, and it didn’t take too long for Barrel to join us. So this series was probably every bit as destined as the Slayer herself.

Each entry in the series is actually a pair of boxes – sometimes in the same cemetery, sometimes in two cemeteries relatively near to one another. And to find the names of the cemeteries that you’ll visit, you need to answer a few questions about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The answers to these questions form a code but (good news!) the same code works for all 12 boxes. So once you’ve answered them once, you can use the same code for the subsequent entries in the series.

As for the cemeteries themselves, we tried to find unique places. They are typically the cemeteries that you might spend literally years driving right past without noticing, or without even realizing that they’re there. But they all have a bit of character. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

The fourth pair of boxes belong to Dawn and Glory. The specific clues follow the questions.

All right, so now for the clues:

Box 1 – Dawn

Cemetery: 4-21-13-23-8-17-19-17-4-25-19-17

If you’ve been a fan of Buffy, then you know that Buffy’s sister, Dawn, showed up in the beginning of Season 5 after having been created by monks who were trying to protect a source of energy that could open a portal to another dimension, which would let a fallen goddess restore herself to, well, Glory. If you WEREN’T a fan of the show, just stay with me. It’s an interesting cemetery, located on the grounds of a monastery with a church that is home to some magnificent examples of Serbian religious iconography.

So I would definitely recommend taking some time to visit and see the inside of the church.

(But seriously! How cool is it that the DAWN box is placed near a bunch of monks!)

Okay. Start by parking your car in the parking lot and walking toward the cemetery (behind the church). Walk first to a marble angel, encased in glass. From there, look beyond the angel to your right for a bronze statue of the Madonna and Child, and walk in that direction.

Look next for an etching of St. George trouncing the dragon (at plot 531). Go there, then take a compass bearing of 305 degrees. You’ll see one of the more unexpected uses for a cross in a cemetery that I’ve ever seen. Walk over to that white wooden cross, and then take a bearing of 180 degrees. Walk down the row, and across the asphalt path, toward a tree with five trunks.

But just before you reach that tree, look left. In the base of another, four-trunked tree, you’ll see where the wood has been shattered. In the base of that tree, the key is hidden.

Box 2 – Glory

Cemetery: 20-8-11-19-21

Drive south on Rte. 45, to Washington street, and turn right. Drive westward to the first light (Mainsail), and you’ll see 20-8-11-19-21 cemetery on the corner. Enter from the front or side, and look for Maudie M’s marker, leaning against a tree.

A compass bearing of 335 degrees will point you to a break in the bushes. Walk 19 steps to a small clearing. To your right, near the fence, is a tall stump. Walk around to the back and reach high. Glory may not be the brightest star in the galaxy, but you still have to reach to catch her.
