Daughters are fighters too!!
DAR letterbox
Planted September 19, 2010

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution can apply to become a member of the DAR. So as you may have guessed my daughter and I have a patriotic relative who fought in the American Revolution. His name was Abiel Turner. We also come from a long line of DAR members including my grandmother who is a member of the Prudence Wright Chapter here in Pepperell. While my daughter and I are not members yet, we plan to start my application process soon, and get hers ready for when she turns 18.

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage-based membership organization of women dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. DAR chapters are involved in raising funds for local scholarships and educational awards, preserving historical properties and artifacts and promoting patriotism within their communities. DAR has chapters in all fifty of the U.S. states as well as in the District of Columbia. There are also DAR chapters in Australia, Austria, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom. DAR's motto is "God, Home, and Country." Some state chapters of DAR date from as early as October 11, 1890, and the National Society of DAR was incorporated by Congressional charter in 1896.

In remembrance of all who have fought and fallen in the name of peace and freedom for the United States of America we plant this letterbox. Please remember and respect the lives sacrificed you.
In order to find this letterbox you need to locate the Prudence Wright DAR building on Main Street in Pepperell. You can park in the driveway to the building off Main Street, or in the driveway off of Park Street. Take some time to stroll through the Park Street Cemetery and pay respect some of our local patriots. There also a Memorial on the corner toward Main Street and Park Street you can visit.
During your walk around the area you will find a tree that once had a double trunk, but now only has one trunk and a stump… Like a soldier who may have lost his arm in battle. Inside the hollow of the stump you will find the DAR Letterbox. Please be sure to cover the box completely with leaves once you are done.

Thank you for remembering our fallen heroes, and for visiting our letterbox. Remember you can always continue your search on Letterboxing.org and AltasQuest.com.
Sincerely,
KeepOnLooking
