Harvey and Grant LaFollette purchased 37,000 acres (150 km2) at Big Creek Gap, where the present community lies, around 1890. They founded the LaFollette Coal, Iron, and Railway Company in order to exploit mineral resources they had observed. Although the business failed during the 1920s, the community continued to grow.[3]
The City of La Follette was incorporated in 1897.
Located in eastern Tennessee, it is north of Knoxville, on edge of the Cumberland Plateauwest of Cumberland Gap, near Norris Lake (a part of the Norris Highlands region). La Follette is a former coal mining center. It is also the birth place of noted musician Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong. The Isaacs, a southern gospel/bluegrass family singing group are from La Follette
In downtown LaFollette, Turn onto Indiana Avenue. On the left you can not miss the most beautiful house in town!! This is the Lafollette House. This house was built by Harvey Lafollette. To oversee his empire in grand style a house was constructed suitable for the charismatic visionary and founder of the city. The home was called Glen Oaks, a large Victorian home designed by the famous architect George Barber. The home is still the largest house in the LaFollette city limits and is located on Indiana Avenue, named for the Lafollette’s home state of Indiana.

CLUE:
Stand facing this beautiful home and look to the right. You will see a beautiful little angel on a fountain in a little park. Located between the fountain and the right side driveway is a LARGE bush. Under this bush is where you will find your history note. *_*
