FOOTLONG (twelfth bite)

This is a 12-stamp series dedicated to family memories and family businesses. (Both of these need to be cherished and preserved, in my opinion.) We salute our favorite hot dog stands, located all the way from Stratford to Naugatuck, CT.

These are "quickie" boxes: located in high traffic areas, no pads, no ink. Each of the 12 bites from the footlong hot dog is numbered and contained in a pouch made from red and white checkered tablecloth. Please be quick to collect the stamp, and thorough in hiding it again. We hope that you will have the time to enjoy the specialties of each location. For many summers, our family certainly has.

TWELFTH BITE LETTERBOX
Olde Sawmill Snack Bar
345 Oxford Road (Rt 67)

Like Fritz's Snack Bar (the seventh bite), the Olde Sawmill Snack Bar and Miniature Golf Course is located on Rt 67 in Oxford. Traveling north of Fritz's, you will cross the Little River twice in rapid succession. One mile more, past several restaurants, look on your left for the miniature golf course. TJ, who is now thirteen years old, has been golfing this course since he was three. Olde Sawmill closes on Labor Day. So right now the sign reads "Gone Fishing Till Spring." It's worth a trip back to try their Hummel "Sawmill Dog." (Skip is very partial to the Sweet Potato Fries!)

Park to the left of the snack bar, all the way to the end of the lot. Alongside of Rt67, you will see a cedar post and cable fence. Walk past 16 posts, and you will come to a yellow "road curves to the right arrow" sign. A few feet past this sign, will be a power line pole. The twelfth and last bite of the footlong hot dog is hidden at the base of the pole under a flat rock.
