Tyler Mill Hiking Trails---Rte 150 (Woodhouse Avenue) East towards Northford. Park in Soccer Field parking lot on left side (East side) of the road. Enter trail at North end of soccer field. There are 2 trails to choose from. Choose the northeast trail of the 2 trails. Cross the stream (may be dried during certain seasons). On the main trail (blue trail) head East. You will pass two red markers on the trees. One is labeled #20 and further along is #21. Where trail splits go left to stay north on the unmarked trail. Even though this trail in not marked with a color code, it is a well-defined trail). As you head uphill thru the pines you will go NW. At the fork, Head NE, then North heading downhill towards a fieldstone wall. Go past fallen large tree and follow river. go straight across logging road in the Eastern direction. Walk through a cedar grove. From where the path turns 90 degrees to the south, take 30 adult paces to where another unmarked trail starts. Turn 90 degrees to the East again, and take about 20-30 paces. In front of you should be a LARGE old Oak tree with a hollowed out arch which can fit a small child. Covered by a slanted branch, you will find Unleashed Lucy's treasure. Inside is a brown inkpad to match Lucy's brown color.

This is our very first planted letterbox, and we wanted to attribute it to our favorite hiking buddy. This trail was a favorite hiking area for our Chocolate lab, Lucy, who passed away in 2009. Lucy and our family would hike here often. And Lucy would take off like a shot out of our car to run "unleashed" through her favorite trails. We picked this tree as our hiding spot because our kids would love to crawl inside the archway and we have several pictures of them and the dog taken at this location over the years. We hope you enjoyed one of our favorite hiking spots.

The total time to hike from the car to our Letterbox site is about 20-25 minutes. If you continue to hike on the unmarked trail past the Oak tree, you can hike down to the river, which is very pretty, especially in the morning.
