A wise old owl sat in an oak. The more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can’t I be like that wise old bird?

At Ragged Mountain, part way up the blue with red dot trail there’s a blue with yellow trail on the right going all the way out to the blue blazed Metacomet Trail. This was a badly maintained trail that Gizz and I traversed once and decided to volunteer to reblaze. This was our first experience in painting blazes and it’s not nearly as easy as it looks. Before this project, I was often critical of other peoples work. Now I have nothing but extreme respect for all of the volunteers who daily provide us with well maintained trails. We finished it today and left a box behind to admit to all the errors in our handywork.

Directions: Follow West Lane west off Route 71-A (Chamberlain Highway) in Berlin for 6/10 of a mile to roadside parking at the entrance to Ragged Mountain Preserve.

From your car follow the blue with red dot trail and when it splits go left, going gradually uphill 20 min. or so. At the first real overlook watch on the right for the newly blazed blue/yellow trail. The lost pig is at the first woods road crossing so pass him and at the next woods road crossing go left for 40/45 steps to a three sister tree on the left. Around the right side of this tree behind a trap door is the box.

Unfortunately this is a store bought stamp due to the fact that Gizz has been unable to carve since losing his $400 glasses in a pond on the golf course trying to retrieve a $2 golf ball (do the math ).
