This letterbox has disappeared, so we are archiving it. So sad! Thanks to everyone who visited and made my kids excited about checking up on it. :)

This letterbox is part of a homeschool letterboxing project. It’s a good one for small children because there isn’t a lot of hiking involved. It is placed near water, so please be aware of this. Additionally, this can be a very crowded spot during maple sugaring times (Jan-Mar weekends) or special events, so please take that into consideration when searching.

From Rte. 16 go west until you reach St. Mary’s Church in Uxbridge. Across from St. Mary’s is Oak Street on your right. Turn down Oak Street. At the tennis courts, which will be on your left, Oak Street continues going to the right. The street forks somewhat, stay to the right. Continue down Oak until you come to Riverbend Farm on your right. Pull in the parking lot.

“Inspired by the success of the Erie Canal (begun in 1817) and spurred by the expansion of textile manufacturing along the Blackstone River in the early 19th century, the Blackstone Canal was built to link Central Massachusetts to the Atlantic via Providence, RI. Between 1828 and 1848, segments of the river were paralleled by the canal on which horse-drawn boats carried freight and passengers between Worcester and Providence. Initially highly successful, the canal was made obsolete by the completion of the railroad in 1847. Most of the canal structures are now gone, but the remains of lock chambers, dams, bridges, workers' housing, and a company store serve to remind us of the rich industrial history of the Blackstone River Valley.” http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/blst.htm

Clues:

Find the place where allegiance is pledged. Place the water to your left. Take 31 paces to a rocky place. Stand upon the largest rock and there you’ll find the box under another rock, at your feet.

And remember, please place the box back under the rock so it is well hidden again. Please be discreet if there are large crowds.
