So I heerd ye been askin' about Cap'n Jean Lafitte. I might know a thing or two that'd be worth yer while.... Aye, thank'ee, I'll take a drop.

Now Cap'n Lafitte.... he's dead, they say. Buried at sea in the Gulf o' Honduras. Or maybe he changed his name after Galveston, and became an honest trader... aye, that's likely! Or some say he went off 'n rescued ol' Boney, and they're both buried in some Louisiana bayou. I wouldn' be knowin' anything about that.

But I'll tell ye what I do know. If ye took ship now, and ye sailed north....aye, I know they say South America, but listen t'me....if ye went north, now, as far as the Delaware Bay, and then upriver a bit past Philadelphia, ye'd reach a spot the Frenchies call Ne Chamonix. (Aye, and fer sure 'tis not Chamonix! though they do say it be an Indian name, for the little creek just to the east.)

Ye'd be leaving the ship then to Walk the Trail by the River toward the creek. Ye'd pass a lookout point, and keep going till ye spied the pirate steps, just before the trail curves around t'port. There be a right good place to sit there 'n wait until the coast be clear.... then ye'd want to check behind the rough-barked tree there, just t'port o' yer seat, and ye might find something interesting. Mind, now, whatever ye find, ye be makin' sure 'tis hid again when ye're done w'it. And if ye should see the Cap'n--well, no need t'mention that 'twas me who sent ye....

A drop more? Aye, thank'ee! this story-telling be thirsty work!

(Planted for Talk Like A Pirate Day 2010)
