Also known as fried dough, Strauben, jalebi, zulbia, flancati, tippaleipa, and Fennel Funnel Pie--funnelcake is classic fairground fare in the United States. If your Labor Day is feeling rather bland, head out to a hilltown fair and enjoy some of this sweet fried treat. Just don't overdo it--this is no health food--You don't want to end up in the Old Burying grounds across the street prematurely, six feet under with a bunch of the first Irish settlers.
When you're finished frolicking at the fair, take a stroll southeast. You might admire the old gazebo on the grounds, with a few cedar trees around. East of the gazebo is an old stump. Eight steps southwest from stump, inside the 3-trunked cedar. It's elementary!
