When I was a kid, I loved Nancy Drew Mysteries. I thought it would be fun to do a series based on some of my favorites. These boxes are great for kids to find too, especially Nancy enthusiasts. This series starts out with "The Secret of Shady Glen." What's Shady Glen you ask? Why, a cemetery of course!
Start at the beautiful Calvary Cemetery on Bluemound Rd. in Milwaukee, just east of Hawley Rd. Enter through the grey archway on Bluemound and park on the paved road.
*****6/28/15 UPDATE! ALL BOXES ARE BACK!****************
Box 1: #85 The Secret of Shady Glen:
Come in the main entrance and take the first right road, and head toward the Ziegler obelisk. At that intersection, turn right. At the end of the drive on the right, you'll see a caretaker's garage. Turn left. After you pass the first drive on the left, you'll come to a tree on the left with a hollow base. It's near the Kirsch gravesite. The box is planted at the base of the hollow tree on the right side. It's tucked up where you can't see it, so please replace it the same way.
Box 2: #32 The Scarlet Slipper Mystery
After stamping, continue west on the paved path. You'll be parallel to Bluemound Rd. The path will curve to the south and you'll be parallel to Hawley Rd. The path will curve left heading east, and you'll see the Hirsh grave on the right. Go straight and you'll pass a path on the right. Go straight past the pyramid on the left and an intersection. Go straight through the intersection. You'll come to another intersection and turn right. Keep going straight and on the left you'll see two large graves. One is Carpenter. Go straight through the next intersection and pass Block 17 on the right. At the next intersection you'll see the grave for Oberly on the left. Turn left at this intersection. You're now heading east toward the chapel on the hill. Keep going through two intersections straight ahead. On the left you'll see the chapel on hill. Keep going straight to Block 4, Section B. When you get to Block 4, Section C, you'll see a steep paved path on the left. Don't drive up the path, because it's too narrow. Walk from here up the hill on the path. You'll pass Dr. Murphy's family and head up the hill. You'll see the Fox family at the top of the hill on the left behind the chapel. As you continue up the hill, you'll see a row of gravestones for the priests who were buried here. At Fr. Berens' stone, look to your right and you'll see two multi-trunked trees. The Scarlet Slippers are at the base of the tree on the right under a flat rock.
Box 3: #49 The Secret of Mirror Bay
After stamping, head back down the hill and the paved path the way you came. When you get to the bottom of the hill, head east to the end of the drive. You'll come to a "T". Turn right and head south. Go past the first right turn and keep heading south. At the end of the drive, the road curves to the west. You'll see the Biemann grave on the left. Walk past the Biemann grave 88 steps to a group of trees, including a blackberry tree! One of these trees holds the Secret at the base of it. In the Secret of Mirror Bay, Nancy goes to Cooperstown, NY to solve a mystery. Cooperstown is where the Baseball Hall of Fame is. The stamp and its location will make sense to you here.
Box 4: #12 The Message in The Hollow Oak
After Mirror Bay, head west on the paved path, which will automatically curve to the north. The path will curve again to the west at the Staab grave. At the end of the path is the Malaney grave. Turn right at this grave. Go past the first intersection, and you'll come to another intersection with bushes and a tree straight ahead. Turn left in front of the Dahlman grave, and right at the McCormick Grave and head up the hill. You'll see the green angel at the top of the hill on the left. When you see the green angel, which is the "Drew" grave, go up the five small stairs to the angel. Turn left and sit down on the concrete ledge. Under the ledge's overhang is the Secret in the Hollow Oak, under some chunks of concrete. From here you should see the grey/blue main entrance to find your way out of the cemetery.
