This is a nice walk through the woods. The trail for the most part is flat and very easy to walk on. There are however a bunch of downed trees laying across the path that you will have to step over, which makes this letterbox not wheelchair or stroller friendly. It is a nice place with at least one other letterbox besides this series in it, so make sure you research other boxes before you start.
Directions:
Take Exit 9 off Rt 3 South. Take a right off the exit ramp. At the bottom of the hill take a left onto Brook. Go to the end and take a right onto Elm (Rt 80 East). Before the one lane bridge take a left into Sampson Park.
LetterBox #1
First walk to the deck and take a look at the view. Its a nice pond to look at unless its raining (like it was when I planted this box). Start at the trail head just left of the light blue handicap sign. Stay on this trail ignoring all others untill you come to a large fallen tree across the trail. Step over the tree and take the small path to the right. Walk 13 paces (1 pace=one step with both feet) through a stand of small pine trees. Staying on the path look for a large rock to your right. With the rock to your back look through the pines for a rock wall. Here is where you have a choice. You can either bushwack through to get to the wall OR you can stay on the path you are on for a short distance, take a left and then make your way over to the wall that way. It's up to you. Once you reach the rock wall ( by whatever means you chose) look for a rock that is standing straight up next to a tree. Mom's 60! letterbox is tucked behind the rock and covered by leaves.
Box #2
Continue on the main path going to the right from box 1. At the fork with the double white blazes stay right. Step over the down tree in the path. Take the small, less traveled path to the right just after you go under a thin tree that hangs over the path. Go over a couple of downed trees. 15-17 STEPS from the sinkhole on the left side of the trail you will come right up to a large oak tree. With the large oak directly in front of your face, turn to your right and look for a smaller rock ( with only the top half showing like the cap of a rocky mountain) 7 STEPS from the tree and to the right side of a thin tall bare tree. Behind the rock under leaf litter and a couple sticks is Box #2 Presents.
Box#3
Return to the main trail and go right. Take a left at the double blazes. Go through a stand of small pine trees. Go straight at the next set of double blazes. See the white "F" painted on the tree to the left? Go 61 PACES (or ~122 steps) from the F to a large standing dead tree/stump to the right side of the trail. In front and slightly to the left you will see a uprooted tree that has been cut off. Under the upturned roots to the left side is Box #3 Balloons. The box is under a few rocks.
Back to the Car
From Box #3 go left on the main trail. Go left at the four way intersection. Go right at the intersection with the double blazes to the left. Pass the rock formation on the left. This trail will bring you past Box #1. Stay left at the spilt in the trail.
