Difficutly: Easy
Distance to Microbox: 1/4 mile one way
Status of Microbox: Reported missing on 6/1/2005
The "Bear in Paradise" Microbox can be found in a small road side park near the connecting road to Mt Evans. The park is called Echo Lake Park, and has picnic facilities and hiking trails all around.
Directions:
From Idaho Springs and I-70, go south on Hwy 103 for about 14 miles. Just before the Mount Evans Highway you will come to Echo Lake Park on your right. Pull in and park. If you pass the lake and reach the Mt Evans cutoff you have gone to far.
To the Microbox:
Hike counter clock wise around the lake on the Echo Lake trail. At the southwest corner of the lake you come to a trail sign ("Echo Lake Trail and Chicago Lake Trail). Go left on the Echo Lake trail. From this sign, count 110 paces. You should be at another trail sign. From this sign go another 23 paces on the Echo Lake Trail to a large rock on the left edge of the path. The box is on the back side of this rock, covered with smaller rocks.
