NOTE: THE LAY OF THE LAND HAS CHANGED. WHEN YOU FIND A POWER POLE TRAIL YOU MAY HAVE TO USE YOUR IMAGINATION. AFFECTED BOXES ARE PADDLE ON THE RIVER AND THE HIKER

Bennett Springs State Park is a natural resource area with something for every outdoor fan. These few boxes introduce you to some of the activities. Come enjoy and perhaps add another one.

MAP

NOTE: These boxes are hidden with a minimum of cover from rocks, sticks, and leaves. This is intentional so as to NOT draw attention to their locations.

Print the map for Bennett Spring State Park.

The boxes in this series are on various trails and do not have to be done in any particular order. The Hiker, is the longest hike at about 20 minutes one way. The others are much shorter. In between trail treks can be pit stops and lunch.

Equipment recommended: sturdy shoes and a walking stick. Water for the walks and picnic lunch

The Hiker: Start at the trail head for Savanna Ridge (Green) and Natural Tunnel (Blue) Trail.

25 steps then duck. (If you don't have to duck then the landmark has changed and look for a deadfall that has been cut for the trail.)
34 steps to a youngling tree on the left.
Spy at about 76 degrees a two coming from one.
Pass another of like kind as you traverse 12 or 13 steps to the one in your sights.

Paddle on the River: Start at the trail head for Savanna Ridge (Green) and Natural Tunnel (Blue) Trail.

After a steep climb crests, watch for two side-by-side boulders on the left side of the trail.
(I was told these might be hard to see during some seasons. A warning at the crest of the hill is a slanted stone pushing a tree. Then look hard left)
On the uphill side trees seem to be growing amongst a crop of rocks.
Paddle between a pair of trees and a pair of hefty rocks, under a small stone as its door.

The Fisherman: Contents missing

The Lure: Fishermen at Bennett Spring need to be aware of what kind of lure can be used where. Near the wooden bridge you can read a sign that describes one kind of required lure. (Sign has nothing to do with finding the box) Near the bridge end (Niangua River end) of Whistle trail a great one has fallen but not by natural causes. One cut, two breaks up. Inside a ragged end behind a single ragged door.

The Catch:MISSING The spring is stocked daily from the hatchery at one end of the 2/3 mile Spring trail. This catch is near water but not in it. Find The Catch in the NE corner of the wooden bridge. Please replace with care this vulnerable box.

Campfire Cooking: Whether you camp or picnic, cooking over an open fire builds memories. Stand by a tree with a nice sized mouth. A play structure downhill at 75. Shelter A at 40. This is not the place though doesn't it look like it should/could be? Look behind you past a fallen one at about 210. You can almost see my door. (Hint: if you can't work it forward try backward)

NOTE: NO HITCH HIKERS PLEASE
