Ringmaster

This letterbox is planted in celebration of Bicko’s son’s (Sniggle’s grandson’s) first paid acting job. Barnum runs from December 9 through the 19th 2010 at the Ivoryton Playhouse.

From the parking lot at Machimoodus State Park in Moodus, CT, take the trail nearest the outhouse! The pond will be on your right. Go straight up the hill. At the top of the rise turn around to see the beautiful view.

Continue East on the trail. Look out for deer! This is a nice quiet walk of a little less than a mile. Notice the tiny cedars along the way. Where is the Mama tree?

Continue on the trail. You will see a stone wall to your left. As you wind around there is a wolf tree on your right. You will cross over a stream bed. This can be muddy during wet times.

You are going the right way if you come to another (a continuation?) stone wall on the left and a downed black birch (sit a spell!) invading the trail. The trail bears right. When you come to a choice to go right (up the hill) or left (down the hill), go left!

Notice the interesting “wanna be wolf tree” hugged by a black birch. The trail is flanked by a stone wall. On the right you see “Connecticut State Land” on a tree. Before you go through the wall walk North 18 to 20 paces to the leaning black birch with the barbed wire running through it. Ringmaster is cozy in the rocks at the base.

Return to the trail. Go back up the hill and continue straight. (If you want an adventure you can continue down the hill to the steep dead end trail toward the river).
Do not go back the way you came. Continue NorthWest. This part of the trail is a level quiet walk. As of this planting, a large oak is down across the trail. Be careful navigating around it!

The trail comes out at a large field on the West side of the pond. Go around the pond to the parking lot.
