The Humglum crawls along the ground.
And never makes the slightest sound.

Directions: On Rt. 4 west out of Torrington, turn right at the police station onto Winsted Road. Straight through the next light then turn left at the set of lights at the white church onto Newfield Road. At 2.4 miles you'll see a sign on the right, at a bridge pointing out the John Muir Trail. Just after the bridge on the left is the park entrance marked only by stone pillars (a sign post is there so maybe a sign will follow) and a no littering sign. Plenty of parking. May be a mile and a half to two miles round trip.

Head down the road past the yellow gate and turn into the woods on the right 65 steps before the cement bridge. There should be blue blazes on the pavement at this point. Cross over a wooden bridge to a nature trail sign high on a tree. This is a loop hike and you'll come back to this point at the end. For now continue straight on the blue trail, crossing another wooden bridge and then seeing a yellow trail coming in from the left. At the Y intersection orange goes right but stay on blue to the leftish. Continue on blue being careful of orange again going right (or straight?) You'll be mostly going uphill until almost the top where the trail takes a left turn and then heads downhill, then a sharp right to go back up for the last time. You may notice an unmarked trail on the left leading to an open area. Keep walking and you'll see another path on the left leading to the same open area (you've been circling this area for awhile now) this trail is blazed yellow/blue. Take a few steps along this trail and look right for a group of rocks. Look behind the most left one and under a flat rock for this nonsensical creature.

The short way back is to continue on this yellow/blue trail to the T, go right on yellow Then watch for white on the left. White will lead you to yellow, go left over the boardwalks, following the water and soon you'll be back where you began.

Don't be madd but this is very close to another of my boxes.
