----THIS LETTERBOX WAS REPORTED MISSING IN FEBRUARY 2004----

Christopher Swain is a champion of the Columbia River. Off and on for 13 months between June 2002 and July 2003 he swam the entire length of the Columbia from its headwaters up in Canada to the Columbia River Bar in the Pacific Ocean near Astoria. He did this heroic feat to raise awareness of the river's health. It is in honor of this accomplishment that this letterbox has been placed at Bradley State Park overlooking the mighty Columbia and Puget Island. Clues and terrain are easy, but not handicap-accessible.

DIRECTIONS FROM PORTLAND: This letterbox is about 75 miles West of Portland and maybe 35 miles East of Astoria. From Portland Take I-5 to Longview/Kelso exit. Follow signs for Oregon, to go over the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Once over the bridge go right toward Clatskanie on Hwy 30 continue on. Turn right at the sign for Bradley State Park.

CLUES: In Bradley State Park go to the stone throne. Stand on the manhole cover and look directly North at 360 degrees. Your path starts there. Go straight. Ignore paths to your left. Go beyond the small clearing, straight through toward big trees. Stop t the third major tree, which is a 200' Western Red Cedar on your right. A large stump is straight ahead. At this convergence of minor paths, go left up the small incline. On this path from the large stump go 20 steps. You'll be standing in front of another stump. Look to your left. The tree 6 steps away holds the Christopher Swain letterbox at its base beneath bark and sticks. Please conceal after stamping in.

Best regards,
