REPORTED MISSING ON 18 FEBRUARY 2005

Accessibility: The lighthouse is open to the public every day. The keepers’ house is a gift shop and museum, and you can climb the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a nice view of the area.

For a History and photographs of the lighthouse please visit http://www.bansemer.com/fl-lighthouses/st_augustine_lighthouse.htm

Difficulty: Easy, this is a “drive by” box.

Driving Directions:
From the Bridge Of Lions in Saint Augustine, travel south on Route A1A. Soon you will pass the Alligator Farm on the right. Turn left at the next intersection [Old Quarry Road on the right, Old Beach Road on the left]. Follow Old Beach Road to the lighthouse.

BE OF GREAT CARE THIS IS A HEAVILY TOURISTED LOCATION YOUR BEST BET MAY BE AFTER HOURS OR OFF SEASON.

Clues:
Across the street from the lighthouse is a park and a restaurant. Travel down the road to the restaurant, stopping at the far left side of the parking lot facing the water. Hike over to the small cypress tree on the water's edge. From this tree, the lighthouse lies on a bearing of 310 degrees. Facing the lighthouse, you will see a small white house with green trim surrounded by a chain link fence on your right. Proceed to the corner of the fence by the water. Climb down into the copse of cypress trees. There will be a jumble of small concrete blocks on the right. The letterbox lies beneath these blocks.
