To find the two City View Trail letterboxes, Oregon Dark-Eyed Juncos and Earwig on the Loose head over to Low Gap Park on Low Gap Road in Ukiah right across the street from the high school and next to the Playhouse, the Skatepark and the tennis courts. Enter Low Gap Park at the far end of the parking area. You will want to take the City View Trail for which there are signs. Though there is no indication of trail distance I think it’s about a four mile walk for both boxes on the loop trail.
First the Oregon Dark-Eyed Juncos Letterbox. Go here if you want to read about this common little bird:

OK, head up the trail and walk, walk, walk. Soon after the vernal pond you will come to a Y. On the right are some steps, stone and then wood. To the left where you are now headed you’ll see a short rope fence indicating the trail and a bench. Have a sit on the bench and spy the good looking oak at twenty degrees beyond the rope. From the rope walk about 51 steps to that oak, then walk eight further steps to the next oak. On its NE side at the base of the tree under and behind a rock should be the Oregon Dark-Eyed Juncos Letterbox. When you’re done please make sure everything is secure and entirely inside the letterbox, then rehide carefully.
Now for the Earwig on the Loose Letterbox. Earwigs are a very old insect dating back to the late Triassic period. If you’d like to know more go here:

In this area earwigs are all over the place, inside, outside, in civilized areas and in the forest. Anywhere dark with a little moisture. Return to the Y and take the steps up for the loop part of the trail. You will go quite a ways before you find the small man-made wooden bridge. Stop when you reach it and turn around in the direction from whence you just came. Walk back up the trail about seven steps. On your left should be a madrone tree. At its base on the north side behind a rock and slightly under the tree you should find the Earwig on the Loose Letterbox.
Once again please rehide carefully and enjoy the rest of the loop and the return trip out of Low Gap Park.
Thanks for coming!!!!!
