From Cape Carteret, travel north west to Jones County for 86 7/20ths furlongs.
Turn left onto the dirt road and proceed for approximately 6 5/8ths shackles.
Turn Right.
Follow the road for just a hair short of 13 cables and turn towards the water.
At about 260 fathoms, you should see a parking area to your left.
Let your car rest, and put on your hiking shoes.
Now would be a good time to take a pit stop for yourself.
After your break take a look for the trail head about 2 rods to your southwest.
From the entrance of the trail, follow for 50 goads to the uprooted tree, and another 22 3/8 smoots.
Stop and face to your left, looking for the base of a burned tree about 32 fingers from the trail.
In the hole at the base of the tree, under a pair of crossed sticks, you will find the letterbox buried in leaves.
