This is the second box in a series of five. If you collect all 6 stamps (bonus stamp in box #4), you will have a set of train cars from engine to caboose. You might want to use a full sheet of paper so you can stamp them in a row to create the whole train. They are not handmade stamps, but I hope you will enjoy them. This series is aimed at families as they explore both trains and other aspects of McLean County.

This hunt begins at Alton Depot Park at the corner of West Front Street and South Western Avenue in Bloomington. Between the playground and a shelter runs a section of the Constitution Trail. This heavily-used walking and biking trail runs throughout Bloomington-Normal, much of it built where trains used to run.

Follow this trail west and cross the bridge over railroad tracks still being used today. Maybe a train will go by while you are here! Continue on down the hill about halfway to the bottom. Stop and read about this area, which was the Bloomington Train Depot from 1913 – 1989. This quiet area used to be a hub of activity.

When you are ready, head back up the trail towards the bridge you just crossed. Just before you step onto the bridge, look to the left/north and find the last stake in the wooden fence. At the base of this stake you will see some concrete that sticks out from under the asphalt. Reach under this concrete to find the letterbox. It is behind a rock. Be careful not to push the box back where it cannot be reached. Please put the rock back in front of it when you are done so it remains hidden.

This part of Constitution Trail is fairly quiet, but please make sure you are not being observed as you retrieve the box. You might want to take it across the bridge to the shelter to do your stamping. There are 4 other boxes with 5 more stamps to be found nearby to complete this train set. Happy Hunting.
