This is the fourth box in a series of five. If you collect all 6 stamps (bonus stamp in this box), you will have a set of train cars from engine to caboose. You might want to use a full sheet of paper so you can stamp them in a row to create the whole train. They are not handmade stamps, but I hope you will enjoy them. This series is aimed at families as they explore both trains and other aspects of McLean County.

This hunt takes place at the north end of Constitution Trail. You can reach it by car, bike or walking. It is about 1 mile north of Normal on Road 1850 North at 1500 East. Park on the west side of the wood fence in the public parking area, not at FS Evergreen Kerrick elevator lot, which is private.

Do you know why this building is it called an elevator? Because inside the grain is raised up (elevated) to be sent out the top through legs to the bins.

Look all around you. To the west you can see the windmills of the new White Oak Wind Farm, and a cement plant. South is a water tower for the town of Normal. North is an old hedgerow between two fields. This is where the railroad tracks used to run north out of Normal. 4 miles north is Hudson, where box #5 of this series is located.

Walk slightly south on this trail and find a stone marker that tells how the Bloomington Airport used to be located here between 1927 – 1934. Imagine airplanes landing in this field.

Go north to the end of the trail and carefully cross the road (speed limit is 55 mph) and turn left/west to find a telephone pole. Find your box at the base of the pole under some bricks. Be careful that no one sees you doing this.

Note the cement pole next to the wooden telephone pole. On the cement pole are the letters ROW for Right Of Way. These are old land markers, this one probably used by the railroad. If you continue up Road 1500 East (Linden Street), you will see several more of these ROW markers on both sides of the road in the next mile.

In this letterbox are 2 stamps of 2 different railroad cars. Add them to your collection and head up to Hudson for the final stamp, a caboose.

Please take care not to be seen removing or replacing the box and leave it fully concealed. You might want to take the box to your car for you to sit and stamp you book privately. There are 4 other boxes with 4 more stamps to be found nearby to complete your train set. Happy Hunting.
