THIS BOX HAS COME IN FROM THE COLD, FOR THE WINTER; AS OF 12/22/06. IT WAS GETTING DESTROYED BY DAMP, AND IMPROPER HANDLING.
Never did get this replaced (6/30/09).........sorry! Will try to find a good place for it come this fall........if anyone wants to contact me and adopt this box; please feel free.... I haven't gotten back up there since 06, despite the fact that it's only 5 miles away!

Abbey Pond is located in the northwest corner of Ripton, and can be reached by turning east off VT 116, 4.3 m. north of VT 125 in E. Middlebury. There is a Forest Service Sign at the beginning of the access road on Rt 116. The trail starts at the parking lot and is blue blazed. It starts out following the brook and is quite steep initially, but does level out for a mile or so once you gain altitude. The book I have lists the altitude at 1160 ft. and it is approximately a 2 hour hike.
After the first "rough" brook crossing (no real bridge)the trail begans to narrow to a single file/person access. Immediately upon widening, the trail comes upon a "false intersection". Near this intersection is a beautiful old birch living in perfect harmony with a giant boulder. On the northeast side of the boulder, the prize can be found tucked away in a tiny cave.

Good Luck and Happy, Happy Trails!
