There is no need to drive to Washington, D.C., to see cherry trees in bloom. Fairmount Park, in Philadelphia, is home to hundreds of the delicate blossoming trees, on both sides of the Schulykill River. Just be sure to visit the park in early April to catch these beautiful trees at their peak!

Near the Mann Music Center, pick up Avenue of the Republic heading east. There are five sculptures, located in a circle at the top of the Avenue. Park nearby, and visit the sculptures -- Moses is in the center and the most promient. The others are: Commodore John Barry, a captain and leader of the Continential Navy during the Revolutionary War, Archbishop John Carroll, Charles Carroll of Carrolton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Father Theobald Matthew, an Irishman who was among the leaders of the temperance movement. These four men were prominent Catholics of their time. After walking among the statutes, turn toward the north and face the Schulykill River. Across the street are two parallel rows of weeping cherry trees. Cross the street and walk on the right-hand path. As you walk, count as you pass 18 trees. In between the two rows of trees, you will see a small gazebo, made of marble, with Roman doric-style columns holding up the roof. It's sad, but the carving on the front of each column base has been worn by time. Stand in the center of the gazebo and face the Moses statue. On your right side, down at the base of the building, is a little cubby that hides what you seek. Hint: this stamp looks best when colored with pink and brown markers!
PLEASE USE CARE WHEN REPLACING THE BOX TO ITS HIDING SPOT --it sits on a ledge, and if you push it in too far, it may fall into a hole under the building, where it cannot be reached! Thanks!
